Bounou’s 2022 tournament was the single most consequential goalkeeping performance Morocco has produced. He saved Sergio Busquets and Carlos Soler in Doha and gave the team belief through the Portugal and France matches that followed. Four years on, the question is whether his reflexes and Al-Hilal’s defensively organised brand of football have kept him sharp enough to repeat it.
