McKennie is the kind of midfielder a coach builds around once he stops trying to fix him — Pochettino seems to have figured that out. He gives the US an aerial set-piece threat almost no other CONCACAF nation can match, and his arriving runs from deep are the cleanest way this team turns possession into shots. Expect him next to Adams in a double pivot, or pushed up as a shuttler whenever the US is chasing a game.
Strengths
- late runs into the box
- aerial threat from set pieces
- physical duel-winning
- versatility across all three midfield roles
Recent form
Regular in Juventus's midfield through 2025-26; double-figure direct goal contributions across club and country.
Born on a US military base in Germany — his father was stationed there — which is how he ended up at Schalke as an 11-year-old.
