The Saudi move is the one slight question mark on a settled France XI. Theo gives Deschamps a left-back who is closer to a winger in possession — his overlapping runs are the team’s primary source of left-channel width when Mbappé drifts central. Defensively he can be exposed, but France’s centre-back depth lets them tolerate that. At 28 he is firmly in his physical prime, and his last full season at Milan was statistically the most productive of any left-back in Serie A.
