Havertz’s fitness is one of the biggest unanswered questions for this German campaign. He is the natural focal point — the player whose movement makes Wirtz and Musiala’s between-the-lines work translate into chances — but Woltemade exists specifically as the bigger, more physical alternative if Havertz can’t make 90 minutes. Expect Nagelsmann to lean on him in must-win moments and rotate Woltemade or Undav for less load-critical group games.
Strengths
- aerial threat at the back post
- hold-up play with back to goal
- late runs into the box
- linking play between midfield and attack
Recent form
Returns from extended absence; minutes-managed through the run-in but reportedly fit for selection.
His grandfather Erich was a referee and his great-uncle was a German football journalist — the family ran a midweek football column in the local paper in Aachen.
