Ayew’s selection as captain is partly about dressing-room standing and partly about tactical fit — he can play as a wide forward, a nine, or a deeper number ten depending on what Queiroz needs. He is also Ghana’s primary set-piece deliverer. The most-likely starting role is as the left-of-three attacker with Kudus drifting inside and Williams holding width on the right, but Queiroz has used him centrally as a false nine in friendlies as well. After Otto Addo’s dismissal, Queiroz has leaned heavily on Ayew’s experience to set the dressing-room tone.
