Kane is the centre of gravity for everything Tuchel wants to do. With Bellingham and Eze running off him and Saka holding width on the right, his ability to receive between the lines and turn becomes England’s primary chance-creation engine before it becomes their primary finishing one. The tournament context matters: he has scored at every World Cup he has played, has six career WC goals, and a deep run in 2026 would put him in the conversation with Müller for England’s tournament-era pantheon. The one persistent question is whether a Tuchel system that asks him to drop deeper costs him the six-yard-box presence that has defined his England career — the friendlies suggest he has solved it by trusting Eze and Rogers to crash the box behind him.
Strengths
- clinical finishing inside and outside the box
- deep-drop link play and long passing
- set-piece delivery and penalty conversion
- leadership and tournament composure
Recent form
Closed Bayern's 2025-26 season as the Bundesliga's top scorer; sharp in England's May friendlies, with goals in two of three warm-ups.
Was released by Arsenal as a nine-year-old for being 'a bit chubby and not very athletic' before Tottenham picked him up — a fact Arsenal fans are reminded of any time he scores in a North London derby.
