Hajsafi is Iran’s veteran left-back and emotional captain, the dressing-room voice who delivered the famous pre-tournament political stand at Qatar 2022. At 36 he is the most-capped current Iranian player, a four-World-Cup veteran, and the symbolic bridge between the Queiroz era and Ghalenoei’s young squad.
Tactically he plays as an attacking left-back or auxiliary left-midfielder, providing set-piece delivery and the cool head Iran will need against Belgium and Egypt’s more individually-gifted attackers.
