Embolo’s career has been a long study in late-blooming consistency. The Monaco years gave him the structure to be a starter at the highest level, and the Rennes move kept him in Ligue 1 with regular minutes. For Switzerland he is the obvious starting striker, with the link play to bring Vargas, Ndoye and Manzambi into the half-spaces. His 2022 ‘no-celebration’ against Cameroon remains one of the most emotionally complicated single goals in modern World Cup history.
