Godoy is Panama’s spine. His pairing with Carrasquilla in midfield — Godoy as the more-defensive holder, Carrasquilla pushing higher — is the structural foundation of how Christiansen wants to play. At 36 his minutes will be managed but his dressing-room weight and on-field communication make him a likely 90-minute starter in the opener. He is also Panama’s most-likely shootout-taker if a knockout match arrives there. A second goal for him at a World Cup would be one of the better stories of the group stage.
Strengths
- ball-winning in front of the back four
- tempo-controlling short passing
- leadership and dressing-room standards
- tournament temperament
Recent form
Played regularly for San Diego FC across the 2025 MLS season; ageing well into a deeper role.
Was the first Panamanian player to score in a World Cup — his strike against Tunisia in 2018 was Panama's first-ever men's-tournament goal.
