Rabiot is the Qatar 2022 surprise package who has not relinquished his place since. His role under Deschamps is unglamorous but specific: arrive late in the box, win the second ball after a Mbappé shot, and shield the left half-space when Theo overlaps. The Marseille move was queried at the time but he has held his form. At 31 this is almost certainly his last World Cup at peak physical capacity.
