There is no contemporary Mexican striker who matches Jiménez for the combination of tournament experience, Premier League rhythm, and the ability to lead a line on his own. His Fulham renaissance has made the No.9 selection question — once a source of agonising debate — close to resolved.
He turns 35 just before the tournament begins, and Aguirre will manage his minutes accordingly. But on a home World Cup stage, with Mora playing underneath him and Santi Giménez or Quiñones as alternatives, Jiménez is the player Mexico needs to be on the field in the decisive moments.

Recent form
9 Premier League goals and 3 assists for Fulham in 2025-26, including a late winner against West Ham at the end of 2025.
His recovery from the November 2020 skull fracture at Arsenal — when many thought his career was over — has made him one of football's most cited comeback stories of the decade.
